Haa Alif atoll also known as North Thiladhunmathi. The northernmost part of the Maldives which has 14 Inhabited island and 29 Uninhabited island a total of 43 beautiful islands.North Thiladhunmath is third largest atoll in the Maldives in terms of population and land area. the Atoll being the north tip of the Maldives, it is the closest to Sri Lanka and India.
In the Matheerah island there is a famous shrine (ziyaraiy, mausoleum). A formerly king of Maldives and his families was always visited in that site to be bless. Such tomb visits are aspects of Sufism that existed among the Maldivians until very recent times. Hence this island was referred to with the honorific title Matheerahffulhu (High (noble) Island) by the Sufi Muslims of the Maldives at that time.
